We were founded 174 years ago to help people buy enough land to enable them to vote. We’re still providing safe homes today, including safe homes for nature.

Martlesham Wilds

Our county’s nature is under threat; we know that people in this region care deeply about protecting local nature. As part of our Saving Suffolk campaign, we’re helping Suffolk Wildlife Trust from now until 2025 to create Martlesham Wilds – a new 289-acre nature reserve.

Martlesham Wilds is a landscape of ancient woodland, scrub, grassland and saltings, linked by the River Deben. It includes an internationally important estuary for waders and wildfowl, and a wonderful array of plants, animals, and invertebrates. Martlesham Wilds will help to bring back the abundance of wildlife that is missing from our countryside, benefitting current and future generations alike.

The purchase was completed with a loan, which Suffolk Wildlife Trust must pay back within a year. It is seeking help from the Suffolk community to achieve this fundraising target. We’re giving £20k to help create Martlesham Wilds; benefitting current and future generations alike. Your membership allows us to help protect the local environment.
