Ipswich Building Society attracts a record number of attendees at its 167th Annual General Meeting

Ipswich Building Society held its 167th Annual General Meeting on 29 March 2017 at Trinity Park. The event, which is part of the Society’s All In membership programme, attracted a record 500 attendees – more than double the number who attended in 2016. The meeting, hosted by The Society’s CEO, Richard Norrington, and Chairman, Sarah Evans, gave members the opportunity to hear about the Society’s performance in 2016 and its plans for the year ahead. BBC TV and radio personality Bill Turnbull, who was invited to speak at the event, gave the audience a fascinating account of his career in television journalism, his time on Strictly Come Dancing and his recent move to Suffolk.

Richard Norrington, Chief Executive at Ipswich Building Society, spoke at his first AGM for the Society, outlining the strengths he has seen over the past year. He reaffirmed the value of the Society’s face to face proposition and growing relationship with intermediaries before highlighting plans for the year ahead, such as the relocation of the Woodbridge branch and new flagship at Princes Street. He emphasised the importance of The Society’s long held aim to act in the best interest of members and staff:

“Our focus on building a positive and supportive culture for employees, while supporting the communities in which we operate and where our staff, and members, live and work. An integrated community approach is a core part of what we do on a day to day basis in all areas at Ipswich Building Society. “

Sarah Evans, Chairman of Ipswich Building Society, stated, “It has been a positive year for the Society with growth in mortgage assets and retail savings, strengthened relationships with our intermediaries, stability in our IT system and strengthening of our Board of Directors.”
