We’re proud to announce that we’re sponsoring the Green Community award at the Suffolk Greenest County Awards 2023. Now in its 12th year, the Greenest County Awards continues to illustrate how Suffolk’s individuals, communities, businesses, schools and third sector organisations are tackling the challenge of climate change.

There are eight award categories this year and we’re pleased to be supporting the Green Community category. This award will celebrate a community or a group of local volunteers who are working together to improve their surrounding environment, or tackle the causes of climate change by raising environmental awareness and making a difference to others.

Despite being founded 174 years ago, we were keen to support this category as it links seamlessly to the environmental and social issues that underpin our mission to the present day. As a Society, having recently researched the priorities of local people, we discovered a staggering 91% percent of respondents in the Eastern region said conserving wildlife and the natural world was the most important social issue to them.

The Green Community award also links in nicely with our new Saving Suffolk campaign which works with carefully selected projects that focus on protecting local nature here in Suffolk. This made it an obvious decision for us to be able to support and celebrate the environmental excellence at the Greenest County Awards this year.

Shelley Curtis, one of our Member Experience Managers and keen ESG champion will be judging the category and says:

“I am honoured to be judging the Green Community category and I’m excited to hear about all the inspirational nominees for the category and, of course, selecting the winner of the Green Community Award 2023”.
